Help Choosing a Carolina Rig Rod

Featured Replies

I am gonna force myself to use a c rig this year. I am looking at 2 rods designed for c rigs. One handles 3/8 to 3/4 and is listed as heavy ... the other is listed as 3/8 to 1 1/2 and is listed as X heavy.  Which would be a better choice? That one has to be pretty stiff !!!

Either one. It will ultimately depend on the C-rig size your using the most..

Tight Lines!!!

Lake RM said either. I never use less than a 3/8 oz. sinker with a CRig. When I go lighter I either split shot or Mojo rig.

Out of the two listed, definitely the extra heavy.  A rod with a 3/4oz max rating (verbatim with a loomis 3 power) is way too light in my opinion.  I throw a 3/4oz weight most of the time, and will routinely go to a 1oz sinker when I fish deeper than about 25ft.

Check out the Team Allstar 827C. Its the rod i use for C-rigging. Its got a Heavy action with extra fast tip.

Really sensitive rod.

I fish a carolina rig with a MH rod. I like just a little tip to be able to make longer casts and to make up for the more limber rod I use braided line. It really helps when you set the hook a long way from the boat.
