Leaders on heavy braid?

Featured Replies

I heard somewhere that its a good idea to use a leader when using heavy braid when flippin/pitchin?

Does anyone use like a 12 lb leader flourocarbon with like 20 lb briad?

I use 40# and 50# spiderwire with a leader all the time. I always use a leader with braid.

To me 20# braid is not heavy braid. 40 up is heavy in my mind.

I use 25#-30# Yo-zuri hybrid ( clear ) as a leader with 40# and 50# spiderwire. have very little problems. I end up breaking a hook or most of the time staightning the hook out when I get a snag.

i also do some  finesse flippin where I use 10# spider wire stealth with 8# P-Line floroclear as a leader

I use a leader in braid all the time except for frogs.

Sufix 15 gets P-line CX 10-12 in spinning gear, Sufix 50 get CX 15-20 in baitcasters.

Yes , use a uni to uni knot to tie the 2 lines together

In case u use a bigger diam leader than ur braided use a swivel to put them together

I use braid on all my reels.  I use a leader for some applications like jerk baits, but why would you want to put a leader on strong, thin braided line for flipping and pitching into heavy cover?  This is where braid excels.  There is nothing better at cutting through the weeds, and the dubious matter of visiblity is completely mitigated by the dense cover.

Don't mess with it.  Pitch that braided jig or heavy pegged plastic right in there with absolute confidence.

I use 50 lb test PowerPro when I am Flippin' and Pitchin'. The only

time I ever use a leader is in clear water. If the water is stained or

dirty you can use the heavy PowerPro line and not worry about a

leader.
