sol

HAs anybody tried or owned the daiwa sol? how is it? is it worth the high price tag?

spinning or baitcaster?

My buddy has the sol in baitcast and I have the alpha (japaneese version of sol).

I think they are well worth it  I will buy another alpha, because it is lighter than the sol.

The Team Daiwa SOL BC, its worth the money.  Super smooth, great for light line. remember its a finesse reel, so its a little small.

Also I just picked up a Team Daiwa Viento, really nice reel also.

yes, the baitcaster

Yes, both the spinning and casting are smooth, lightweight reels with tight tolerances (classic Daiwa).

I was contemplating the SOL but ended up going with the Japanese version-the Alphas.

one ounce lighter. more line capacity. better handle. cheaper than retail price of a SOL.

who makes the alpha, how much, and where could i get it?

The Sol is a nice reel. Fit and finish are nice, casting is smooth, handles fish well, great drag system. I have one that Im looking to sell, Ive made 50 casts with it total. Paid $220 for it, PM me an offer.

Yeah, I went the Alphas too even though the ounce of weight comes from a brass main gear in the Sol, versus a plastic gear in the Alphas.  I guess I should have thrown the Alphas factor in there, but some people want to stick to USDM reels for warranty and such
