BPS vs Cabelas

Featured Replies

I am looking to upgrade my rods this year.  I have had people locally tell me that both BPS and Cabelas name brand rods are very good for the cost.  So now I am putting the question to all of you.  Which company had better name brand rods, or is there another company that puts out quality rods that will not put a simple working man into the poor house (or the dog house with his wife).  Thank you all in advance for your input in this matter.

What price will put you in the poor house?

BPS

I have never used the Cabelas rods so I am not much help, but I have used several BPS rods and have always been pleased! I like the BPS Extreme models good rod for the money!

Yup, I second that.  I have a few BPS rods, all great rods for the money.

I like to shop at both places As far as house brands go both have great reels .BPS has a lot more choices though. BPS has the edge on rod quality in my experience

I have several Cabela's brand rods (1 Tourney Trail, 1 Bigwater, 1 Fish Eagle II, 3 Fly Rods, and 6 XML's).  I also have several Bass Pro brand rods (2 Spiral Pro, 3 Pro Comp II's, 3 Tourney's, 2 XPS Professionals, 5 Bionic Blades, and 4 Extremes).  The best rod by far in my opinion (again, this is dependent of what you are using it for) is Cabela's XML.  The Bass Pro Extreme rods are very good, but the weight balancing system of the Bass Pro rods seem to come loose easily, while the Cabela's weight balancing system stays in place.  Also, I use my XPS Professional rod as a jerkbait rod, and I wouldn't use anything else for jerk baits.  So it is a matter of preference, but if you find yourself with some Cabela's gift certificates and don't know what to buy, I would look at the XML's (especially if they are on sale for $99.99 like they recently were).

Look at the bargain section on both sites, you can get some good deals from time to time, other than that if i was looking at either bass pro or cableas and could find a falcon or allstar or shimano rod around the same price i'd pick one of the other three.i have two falcon coastals i bought to fish at the beach and didn't want alot of money in them because of salt water and i have been pleased with them so far.

Not sure which has the best rods, but would like to offer advice. Watch their web sites for sales. If you plan to purchase in the store, print the sale price add on your computer and take it to the store. BPS will honor the sale price from the internet and Cabelas probably will as well. BPS frequently has internet only sales but they will match in the store if you ask and have proof...........................Al

Just to follow up on what Al wrote, I know Cabela's will match the price.  Cabela's had an internet only sale and I printed out the web page and brought it to the store.  They matched the price.

Forgot to mention- The items in the bargain section are frequently not available in the stores(BPS). They are usually discontinued and no longer in stock.....................Al
