what's the best knot to tie a flourocarbon leader to a braid?

I recommend two knots the uni to uni knot illustration found here

www.fish4fun.com/Joining2Lines.htm

the other is a bit more complicated, but I use it when the leader material is a bit thicker than the braid

its a bimini twist to a no name knot found here

http://www.hatterasoutfitters.com/no_name_knot.htm

I use the Uni knot, and put a drop of fishing (kazy) glue on the knot

I have been fishing braid with leaders for years, and had all kinds of problems with knots slipping at all the wrong times.  I tried the crazy glue thing, but the glue dries with little jagged edges that can create their own problems.

The knot I use now, is a uni to uni but I double the braid end and use 8 loops of braid.

On the mono side I wrap it around both the tag end of the doubled braid and the mono leader.  5 loops is good for that side.

It can be a little tricky drawing it down because off all the line involve.  Just do it slow, and pull out the loops as they begin to form.   The end result will have you with four tag ends.  The two from the looped braid (when you cut the loop, you have two tag ends).  On the other side you have to cut the excess mono and the excess braid that was the original tag end of the doubled braid.

It sounds confusing but if you tie a uni to uni with the braid doubled you will easily see what I'm talking about.

This knot has NEVER slipped on me.

Remember, take your time and get those loops out right away as you draw the two sides together.  With a little practice you will be tying a very strong, compact knot that won't slip.

If there are any braid manufacturing reps who decide to use this knot and call it the "Power pro" knot or the "spiderwire knot" that's find just send me a check.   :-*
