Quantum reels?

Featured Replies

I have a question for all you Quantum reel lovers.  I had bought a Accurist PT about 6 or 7 years ago and still use it to this day.  I just love it.  I want to stay with Quantum reels which leads me to my question.

1.)  What do yall think about the Quantum Energy PT?  Pg 111 in the BPS 2007 catalog.

2.)  What about the Quantum Bill Dance Low-Profile Baitcast Combo?  Pg 113 in the BPS 2007 catalog.

I recently got the Quantum Energy PT "Burner" for x-mas and the one time I used it, I liked it, took me a while to get use to it after using Shimano Curado and Castaics for the past 3 years.

The Energy PT's are great reels. I have three of them. If I had to go on a trip and only takes three setups, I would take those three reels.

Cheers,

GK

Quantum energy PT..............An excellent reel..................I have a few of them and they have never given me a hint of a problem!  ;D

All my baitcasters are Quantum's and I feel that the Energy PT is the best Quantum for the money.  Super smooth and strong!

Quantum also has one of the best customer services JMHO.

you are on two ands of the spectrum there buddy. The Bill dance combo is like a "hey i'm new to baitcasting and want to try it because people on tv use them" type of reel, and the energy is a nice reel if you want to stick with quantum

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm seriously curious - what was to get used to?  Can you expand on the statement?

What he said. Also, I recall reelmech recently said that PT reels were the only ones worth having. (from quantum, better clarify that before I start a riot :D) The others are far cheaper in design, although my first baitcaster was a KVD model, and it survived several years of hard use.

Let me clarify my question.  I wasn't compairing the two reels.  I was asking what people thought of the Quantum Energy PT and what people thought of the new Quantum Bill Dance Low-Profile Baitcast Combo.  It is a new item and was wondering if anybody has tried it or heard anything about it.  I bought the Energy PT about 2 days ago but haven't used it yet.

Quantums are heavier than Shimanos and that in its self takes time to get use to.  But I have mainly used Quantums so I don't have that problem.  I have a Shimano but don't use it all that much.

I picked up a couple of the Bill Dance reels a couple years ago with the intent to sell both.  I stuck one on a rod for an early spring fishing trip and wound up catching my PB at over 8 lbs on the thing.  ;D

It was an OK reel.  Very smooth casting but a few things stuck out like the spool tension knob was made of plastic and the threads were stripped on one. (BPS sent me a pair of them for free so I could sell the things).  It just didn't have a real solid feel to it.   I'm not sure how well those reels would hold up if you really put the muscle to them over a fishing season.

That is what I would like to know. They don't cost alot but like the old saying goes....you get what you pay for!!!

Ok.  I was wondering if there were other subtle, less obvious reasons.  I'm hoping Cabela can give a review.

Thanks TBP.
