Shimano Compre v. St. Croix Premier

Featured Replies

I need a new casting rod and right now its a toss up between those two.  I think I'm leaning toward the Compre but still not positive.  Just wanted to get others opinions on both of these.  And does anybody know if BPS would be likely to carry these in store because I'd rather not pay the shipping from ordering online.  Thanks

I would take the Premier myself, but it does not come in a 7' only 6'6". And I think BPS has both of them. ::(

i would get the compere

i had 1 and there a great rod

plus they carry a lifetime over the counter warrenty

which i look at as buy the rod once own it forever no matter how clumsy u or ur friend is

The Premier is offered in 5 7' models and 2 7'6 models.

The Premier models have a 5 year warranty. You have to step up to the Avid for the lifetime warranty.

As for BPS, I saw several 7' Premier rods at the Charlotte NC store on Tuesday.

Have or have had them both ....... I would take the Premier hands down!!!!!!

Use both and they are comparable in quality and performance.  Compre has the lifetime warranty so it would be my choice. Premier is not lifetime warranty.

Sorry for the bad info I gave about the Warranty. :'( :'( I did not know that they made 7'6". I don't think they make a MH in 6'6" rod and no 7' rod in MH. :'( :'( :'( :'(

Premier casting rods are offered in:

5'6 - MF

6' - MLF, MF, MHF

6'6 - MLF, MF, MHF, HF

7' - MLF, MF, MHF, HF

7'6 - LM, HF

I'm also in the market for a new baitcasting rod, and this spring I'm going to go with the St. Croix - it just seems to be a little bit more rod for the money - I like the Compre, but I really like the Premier - feels like a great rod.

I fished the compre's for a season, and loved them.  I felt they were lighter and had a more crisp action than the Premier, and I think they fished like a more expensive rod.   Rod choice is based on some preferences, so I always recommend going to a retailer that has both rods and comparing them directly.  I can usually tell within 5 seconds whether I'm going to love it or not.

Thanks guys.  I'm going to BPS this weekend so hopefully they'll have both rods there and I can test them out.  The baitmonkey will be turned loose. :(

Like KU I have both right now.  I do like that Shimano has a Lifetime warranty but those are only good if you have to use them.  I have had Shimano break under normal conditions and though I did get a new rod for free, the thing still broke on me and left me down by one rod for a while.  I own several St. Croixs and I have never needed to use the warranty, which to me is more important.  But I do like that the Compre has better guides.

Between the two Shimano all the way.  You cant beat a lifetime over the counter warranty.
