10" Berkley Power Worm

Featured Replies

So there I was at BPS today, thinking like a Bass!! Scouted the whole tackle section for the RED clearance labels. I found some 10" Electric Grape Berkley Power Worms for $1.98 a bag(among some other baits I couldnt pass up). I bought all 4 bags they had remaining of that color at that price.Guess they just werent selling too well.

Now that I have em,how do I fish these bohemoths? Do I fish it the same way I would a regular plastic worm,or is there a different technique due to its size? Is the color ok? What size hook should I use and what size sinker?

Is this a better bait during the day or should I primarily fish it at night?

Any other pointers anyone could point out would be great.

Depending on geographical location, there are numerous ways to fish these as well as times of the year.

I primarily fish them on deeper structure > 10 in the summer months.

I've also fished them through pads and thick weeds with openings where I snake it weightless along the top and then allow the worm to freefall into openings. Even without the weight the worm will sink very slowly.

I use a minimum 5/0 hook. Weight depends on the depth you're fishing and the wind.  You need to remain in contact with your bait so deeper water with a breeze, may dictate 3/8 oz to 1/2oz.  I always attempt to use as light a weight as I can get away with.

As for color, that's a personal preference.  My colors in the 10" worms I fish are Black/neon, Junebug, Electric Red Shad, Natural Shell, Guido's special.

I have been doing really well with Berkley 10" power worms this summer - I've even caught a few smallies with them!  I like them on braid with a 4/0 or 5/0 j-bend hook, 1/8 oz bullet sinker and a parasite clip.  I believe j-bend is better than ewg for these because they are thin.  I like to drag the worm along the bottom looking for structure. Once I hit a rockpile, brushpile, etc. I'll fish it thoroughly.  You can also retrieve it faster, through weeds, along weed edges, etc.  Basically, I fish it like any other plastic bait but you have the advantage of more size and weight.  And don't worry about the bigger size, bass will go for it. Good luck!

10" Power worms; don't leave home without "em.

I use these almost all year, mostly dark colors because I'm fishing them in deeper water.

I use a 5/0 EWG hook, and start with an 1/8oz weight, unpegged for the 8-10 foot range. Go up in weight for deeper water, and/or wind conditions.

I get most of my bigger fish by fishing these really slow, staying right on the bottom.

Crawling these along through the weeds, unweighted, has scored me some nice fish too.

Cheers,

GK

I forgot to mention that I have never had a subtle bite on one of these. The bass usually annihilate it, so hold on!  :P

I have to agree with sinbad

. Every time I've used the 10" Red Shad power worm I have had nothing but huge bites.  It has been my go to bait this summer.

Best summertime worm made in my opinion....especially at night. They move alot of water and the PowerBait scent kills 'em.
