I need to build a rod for small glide baits and big crankbaits. Bait range will be 1-2 ounces. Looking for something with enough tip to work the glide baits but with a moderate enough action for the treble hooks. I have swimbait rods for everything over this size, but nothing for the lower ranges.

I have an NFC IM SWB 806 on my bench to build, CCS measurements are 925g/70deg - so a Heavy/Mod-Fast...Feel like it would fit the bill for that.  I am building it for someone who wants to throw smaller glides.  I think a Chad Shad at about 2.5oz will be the biggest bait that would be appropriate on this blank.

 

Not sure how well it'd handle big cranks, but the measurements lead me to believe it might be a decent fit for like 8XD type oversized cranks.  

Tried and true Batson RX7 rod blank that has been doing what you describe for 20+ years, the SW967. If you are interested an old review on calfishing.com goes over just your specs and the lures at that time the rod fished well. It is also a casting machine, I own two and use them for far more an bass fishing with great results. Blanks like this and salmon backbouncing rods were what the swimbait blanks were derived off of. You're doing yourself a disservice if you only fish bass with a swimbait rod.

I am going to build a NFC 7109 X-ray form this same purpose as you have.  I am just waiting on the package form Michele with the rest of the parts.  The blank seems perfect for light swim baits.

They release a few more Carbon Air Swimbait blanks as well from NFC.  I am going to order those up to check out too.  I hope the power and actions are similar to the non-Carbon Air blanks, but I am guessing they will be different like the 807 was.  Hopefully not.  It makes it hard to know what to order when it changes between materials but has the same power ratings.
