Replaced my favorite Lew's rod after a bass ran me into heavy weeds and broke it

Featured Replies

I had a nice bass run me into very heavy weeds this morning and not only got off, but snapped my Lew's Xfinity Speed Stick IM7 basically halfway up. Losing the fish sucked, but man I hated seeing that rod snap-- caught lots of nice bass with it and it was an awesome pitching stick.

What I replaced it with was an Abu Garcia Vengeance 7'6 heavy action and I slapped some Daiwa J-braid x4 on the old Daiwa triforce-z 153iV that was seated upon it. I figured since I tend to fish heavy weed eds a lot that was a good learning lesson on getting a heavier action setup for that.

How did I do with the replacement?

Was the old one just a 7' MH F? If so then yes I'd say getting something a little heavier was probably a good call. I've got one similar to that in terms of length, power and action in my lineup. Aside from flipping and punching (which is what it's advertised for) I've found it also does well if I want to throw an a-rig or something like a 6" magdraft with a owner beast hook in it. Hope you catch some monsters with it anyway...
