Lake Okeechobee 2nd week.....

Featured Replies

Of October. I'm going to be there. I'll have 1 mh rod with me. I'll be renting a jon boat at Roland martins place if they're available. Should I go early am or in the evening? What baits work well there in October? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance

Morning or late evening.

Don’t stay after dark!!

The Lake will be in pre spawn in mid October so I would stay along the outer edge of Coots Bay which starts on your right as soon as you cross the rim canal after you come out of the lock.

If the water is calm or not I personally would not venture into The Lake under any circumstances in a Jon boat.
From there all around to Ritta Island is fairly protected with patches of hard bottom with isolated clumps of reeds and fields of Kissimmee and eel grass for miles.

If we get an early cold front then turn left into the rim canal and go a few miles to Uncle Joe’s cut which is a wide canal on your right that empties into the The Lake which will be more protected from a North wind.
If you’re into finesse type fishing that’s the place

You could pick up a cheap map if you want at any of the tackle shops to help you get your bearings.

Good Luck

Unfortunately I've decided to go elsewhere. I'll be fishing in central Florida instead. Thank you for sharing your information though. I'll take this post down if I can, I'm relatively new here.

Either the lake or Crntral Florida I would go in the morning because you are less likely to get bad weather in the mornings.  Although it will be cooling off way up north, south Florida and central Florida will still have warm days that generate afternoon storms.  You are still in the tropics down here.
