Hello all. I am about to purchase my first casting reel. I would like to get the Abu Garcia Revo S series reel which has a centrifugal braking system but was wondering if upgrading to the SX series with a magnetic braking system makes more sense. Is one better than the other for casting/flipping etc.. Ie. Can you "flip" as well with a magnetic brake system as you can a centrifugal. I appreciate any input. Thanks.

The Revo SX seams like an upgrade to the Revo S.  From the discription it seems like it could be used for more applications. However it is 50 bucks more.  I have never used these reels, so I can't help you that much.

You will find you won't worry about the spools braking system when flipping, as there is very little if any spool rotation at all.

As for pitching, with a properly setup reel, either brake system works well.

It all really comes down to the way the reel/rod system is set up and how educated the thumb is..
