soft/hard jerkbait gear

Featured Replies

Hey, I I'd like to hear what kind of rod/reel set-ups you use for throwing lures such as flukes and rogues. Do you use the same or different set-ups for soft and hard jerk baits.

Hello Basscat. I usually like to throw hard jerkbaits on medium action 6'6" spinning rods with 8 lb test or medium action 6'6" or 7' Loomis crankbait rods with 10# test. As for soft jerkbaits like a fluke, I like a little heavier rod like a medium heavy spinning rod with 8-10# test or a medium heavy baitcaster with 12# test. I always like a heavier rod with a single hook application. Just my personal preference.

Thanks,

Scott

I also use heavier tackle when using flukes, slug-gos, z toos, etc.

I use a 6'6" MH BC rod with 12-20# test mono, depending on the cover.

When fishing hard jerkbaits, I mostly use a 6'6" or 6'10" M or MH spinning rod with lighter line - 8-10# test fluorocarbon. I will on occasion change to BC gear -- a 6'6" M or MH rod with 12# test mono -- if there is a significant amount of cover nearby.
