65LB Berkley X9 Braid Diameter

Featured Replies

Reviews for Berkley X9 are all over the place. Some are saying it's thicker than usual and is thicker than what they are used to using in the same LB test. Some are saying it's really thin and to go up a size. I'm all confused.

Tackle Warehouse lists 65lb Berkley X9 at 0.35mm. Has anyone tested the diameter and therefore can confirm if the 65lb Berkley X9 braid is anywhere close to 0.35mm? I am OK with it being a little on the thick side. I am just hoping it will not be too thin.

Go by the JAFS diameter rating printed on the label as it's closer to its actual diameter.  This number will appear in gou, designated by the gou character 号.  Take the imperial and metric diameters with a grain of salt, they use those purely for marketing purposes.  I use the 6lb often, labeled as #0.8 号. Visually comparing it to #0.8 YGK Upgrade x8, the x9 is just a tiny bit larger in diameter to the naked eye.  You can compare the goh rating of X9 to the chart on the Varivas website to get you a ballpark figure of its actual diameter.

Berkley's measurements of X5/9 are very optimistic IMO.  Alhough it not as thin as they claim, X9 is still thinner than most USDM braids.  If it wasn't a very solid line for the price, I would stop using it.  Overall its pretty good and I would think you would like it.
