Help with Garmin Striker 4

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am new to fish finders and I picked up a Garmin striker 4 kit.

I set the unit up very basic with the fish icons etc, as I am trying to make it user friendly.

I have it set up for trolling and ice fishing in the winter.

I've been running into some issues? with it or I'm not quite sure. While trolling and today using it for ice fishing I find that it locks up at a certain depth and just shows constant fish within 1/2 ft on a solid line. Sometimes with gaps between the icons. I try to readjust the transducer but no change. My thought was that maybe there is something floating in the water below that it is picking up but it goes on and on for quite a long time.

Today it happened again. I went into settings and put the transducer as GT8hw (my ice fishing sonar), placed it on the water about 3ft down and same thing.

I don't know if this has something to do with the frequency settings as I tried to understand how they work but I can't grasp it.

Settings can be CHIRP 77khz, CHIRP 200khz, 77khz and 200khz

I tried each frequency and no change.

Can I please get some guidance on how to set up this unit with the 2 different transducers I have for it?

I didn't know I had a setting for the different types of transducers so I tried that today.

I tried watching videos on this but again it's over and above for my freshness right now

So I have the 77/200 kHz dual-beam transducer it came with and I also bought the ice fishing transducer GT8HW.

Appreciate any information you can give me

Thanks!
