Rod tip and senkos/small plastics

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble deciding what rod to use for fishing with senko's and other small plastics. Not sure if a soft tip or a rod with a stiff tip gives an advantage and I'm wondering what you guys use for this.

Thanks! :-/

I don't do much finesse fishing.

But I have been building a bunch of rods for finesse, for some very good finesse anglers. Most of the rod specs they ask about is length 7' and blank power Med. and Med.Light, the tip actions being requested are Fast and Extra Fast, all depending on the blank power they use.

Tight Lines!!!

This might help...

Tight Lines!

Thanks for the info, ReelMech. I'm guessing fast action tip equates to a soft tip?

I think you'r guessing wrong !!!

Go to Roadwarrior's sticky post called "Rods: Power and Action defined" (or something similar) to understand rod classification.

What is "small plastics" for you???

A medium light rod would strougle with the bigger senkos/knock-offs.Senkos are preaty heavy by themself, I'd go with a MH for senkos. For other SMALL plastics, a ML would be better. A fast action would be better as it would give you more sensitivity.

Also, for Small plastics I'd use a spinning combo and for senkos I would use a baitcaster.

I'm affraid there is NO rod to work equaly well senkos and small plastics !!!

A compomise would be a medium power fast action spinning outfit (but will strougle with realy light small plastics or big senkos/knock-offs)
