Spotting Bass In The Shallows

Featured Replies

Ive been walking a couple lakes and you see bass hanging around about 3-6 feet off the bank, most of them are dinks, but occasionally you see a decent fish. Ive been throwing 4inch Powerworms, and GYCB Kut-Tails to em and thats been working fairly well. But I just wanted to know if any of you guys have a key bait you choose when you can spot the bass in the shallows.

It depends on the "Hatch".  I try the topwater first, just because I like topwater action best.  Saturday they were hitting minows in the shallow.  Nothing worked except a 3" Silver/Charcoal Fluke for the agressive fish and I had to whittle it down to a slimmer body and about 2 1/2" length when the action slowed.

I like the soft plastic baits.  I can tie on a 5/0 EWG and quickly switch from a frog, fluke / bass assassin, grub, beever, worm, etc with ease.  Yea, I am lazy and do not like to tie knots.

i like an 1/8 oz shakey head w/ a zoom finesse worm and work it really slow or aggressive

I have a bunch of these 3" soft plastic red worms - got off ebay for a couple $$ on a whim and they have been the greatest - that I will put on a 2/0 or 3/0 hook, just thread the whole thing along the hook and throw out weightless. They have been clobbering that the last couple of months. Have also found smaller senkos - 4" - wacky rigged works pretty good as well. I use to throw out a little past them and try to pull it back in their path. However, I have found that dropping it right on there head seems to get the best reaction.
