Lure Identification

Featured Replies

Brothers,

I am using Plano 3700 boxes for my lures. Most of the time I lose the I.D. info that came with the lure and consequently when the time comes I am not sure if I am grabbing a sinker, suspender or how deep the lure will dive, Does anyone have a system that you can identify the lure once it is in the lure case. A numbering system or color coding perhaps. Do the lures generally allow for some sort of external marking on the main body of the lure without affecting the performance or characteristics.

You could use a permanent marking pen to write something on the lips or the bodies, but "permanent" is a stretch based on my experience. I tried marking depth on the lips, but eventually it washed off.

If you don't have a lot of turnover in your crankbaits, you can stick small adhesive labels on the inside of the lid in positions that correspond to the compartments and cover the labels with clear tape so the ink doesn't wash off. I do this with my hook box.

In my personal circumstance, I'm able to remember most of the info that I need about the cranks.

i read somewhere on here a dude uses paint pens to write running depth on the belly of the lure...i think he said he got them from hobby shops

Jsut do what I do I take the lure, making sure no snaps etc are tied to it, I thow it over the side of the boat , if it sinks out of sight IT IN DEFINITELY NOT A FLOATER

I carve the depth and other information on the lip of the lure with an exacto knife.  Be careful though!  But that never rubs off no matter how hard you try.
