Shakey head---what rod??

Featured Replies

Ok guys--I experimented with a buddies shakey head set up this past weekend.  This was the first time I had ever fished a shakey head and I really liked it.  So, what rod do you recommend for this application?  Also, what worms work best?

Right now, I use a Zoom finesse worm or occasionally a full sized trick worm.

I use a spinning reel with a 6'6 medium rod with a fast tip.  The limber rod and soft tip increases sensitivity and makes the shaking part a little easier. I use 6-8lb berkly vanish flourocarbon line for all finesse fishing. Only problem is it doesn't have much muscle for heavier cover...but I only use a shakey head when in a tough spot.  Not one of my favorite techniques.

I use a 6'6" medium heavy rod.  I am actually going to rig up another on a 7' medium.  I use Zoom finese worms or Zoom trick worms.  I use 8 lb Trilene Maxx for my 6'6" and will be likley setting up the 7' with 4 or 6 lb Vanish.

I use a 7' PR844S Loomis GL3 spinning medium action paired with a Pflueger supreme reel spooled with 6 or 8 lb Cajun line.

Just my 2ct.

Oh and I like Conrad Hybrids...craw in particular. Also the Berkly bungee tail worm.

I use a 6'6" MF St. Croix Premier w/tru tungsten ball buster jig head and either a Zoom finesse worm or the Mann's hard nose finesse worms.

I use the new loomis shaky head rod. Always a green pumpkin zoom finesse worm on a lunker lure Shak-E-Head. Works great if you have to resort to it.
