braided line

Featured Replies

my reel makes a funny highpitched sound when I put braid on it and it seems to make the reel sound like is is reeling in a brick.

any help would be grewat

Perhaps the drag is set wrong?

Is the line going thru the guides or did it get wrapped somehow when you put it on the rod?

Maybe the bail release is not clicking over all the way (if its a baitcaster)?

Is the line seated correctly on the reel?

Just a couple ideas to help troubleshoot...

Assuming it's not real loud, I think that's normal.  The rough line rubs on the guides and the reel guide or the bail.  And when there's any tension on the line at all it sets up a pretty good vibration = sound.

Personally I would ditch the braid. Go with mono. Braids have been known to rip boat cleats off when trying to break them with the outboard. Just imagine what it will do to your reel/ rod over time.

Nasty stuff.

Braid does make a hight pitch sound your going with a smaller dia. then you would with Mono and that smaller dia. is like a Vilolin being played through the guides and anti-twist roller.

Sorry, but that's just not true.  >;) Braid won't damage your rod or reel as long as you're using it properly.  You should be careful to cut off a few feet of line every so often because dirt/sand/mud gets trapped in the fibers and can make it abrasive on your guides (or so I've been told).  And you should always match the line to the rod.  But as long as you don't tie the line to a boat, car, tractor or other motor vehicle and try to reel it in, you'll be just fine.  ;D

Braid is just a noisy line.  I got used to it a long time ago.
