Falcon Rod for Drop Shot / Finesse Worms

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about adding a Falcon Lowrider 5-167 to my arsenal to use as a drop shot / finesse worm rod. It's 6'7", MH/F and rated for 1/4-3/4 oz. It was designed as a weightless worm rod for Senko's and such but seems to have enough backbone to use for other applications as well. I'll probably set it up with a Shimano Citica or Curado 100DSV and 12# PLine CX.

What do ya'll think?

I guess that would be a decent "power" drop shot rig to fish heavier cover using the drop shot technique.

I am willing to bet when most people think of drop shotting, they're thinking 4-10# test, probably 6# most likely and a spinning reel and some med-light action rod with a soft tip.

I think it's cool you're thinking out of the box so to speak. 8-)

I have drop shotted with a bait cast reel and the biggest thing I noticed was that the decent of my lure had to be "helped" sometimes by stripping line off and I thought that was extra work on my part. I like the fall my lures got on my spinning DS rig much more. It's not a good or bad thing, just an observation.

I'm just not a big fan of spinning gear but that may have something to do with learning to cast on reels with no freespool and braided dacron line at an early age!

I realize it's not exactly the "poster child" drop shot rig but it should be a little bit more versatile! The other thing is most of the lakes here in Texas aren't for the most part what you would consider clear water so I think you might get by with using heavier than normal line for drop shotting.

I've got that rod. I use it for flukes, senkos and tubes. It has a real fast tip, very accurate casting. I have a TD Fuego on it and use 10# and 12# line.

I don't drop shot so I can't help you with that.
