Calcutta DC

Featured Replies

I just passed up buying a new Calcutta DC for $350. I thought about it but I've used them in the past and, frankly, I feel like they perform TOO well. I'm still tempted to get it but I'm wondering what kind of experiences people have had with the DCs. Should I pull the trigger?

I'ver never used the DC. Can you tell me what do you mean it works too well?

Redsyn,

The casting distance is incredible.  The chip seems to work as advertised; the reel is very easy to operate.  I don't think I'm alone in saying there's a certain degree of pride in being able to operate a baitcaster well.  With DC technology, I feel like a chimp could outcast me on my Calais.

Still, I see the allure of the reel and it's fun to burn money...

Everything about my Calcutta TE200DC is perfect. This reel is an engineering work of art. Never held a reel as smooth sturdy and well built. Of all the things I love about this reel, casting distance is way down on the list. I don't think it's that much longer than my 50 Mgs. It will cast a 1/8 oz crankbait into the wind and when you hook a nice fish, it's like having power steering with a drag as smooth as butter. I only wish it came in a model with a faster retrieve. I am saving up for a Calais DC.  JMHO

Alpster, I certainly respect your opinion.  The reel is, indeed, an engineering work of art.  I did not mean to down-play other aspects of the reel, I am simply worried that my thumb will become uneducated, if that makes sense.

May I assume your assessment is a buy recommendation?

I don't think your thumb would be in any danger. The DC is not like a spin caster, it can be backlashed easily. I think maybe the hype has led people to belive that it's backlash proof and that is not the case. It's a superior free spool control and I like it, but it is very capable of backlash. I cast it with the same care and technique as I do all my other baitcasters.

If you can afford it, I would definitely recommend it. It's a joy to fish with. JMHO

I have a calcutta dc and I love it... Although I cannot use it when I am fishing multiple bc reels with out the DC technology.  I takes a while ti get my thumb

"RE-educated".  It is an awesome reel but I don't recomend swapping between them when fishing a tourney.
