Curado Bearing Removal

Featured Replies

I've got a Curado 200BSF that has a bad spool bearing.  To replace you have to remove the pin that goes through the spool shaft and engages the pinion gear.  Does anyone know how to remove this pin?  I'm guessing it's a press fit but don't want to ruin the shaft by trying to press out. thanks

What year is your reel?

How do you know that the bearing is bad?

2003 - Bearing shows rust on outside and though not frozen is rough when spun.  It's sold as part of the spool assembly (BNT1507).

mikeno,

Sorry bud, but that is not a Super Free (SF) reel.

None of the SF reels had a bearing behind the engagement pin. The SF reels have a bearing pack that supports the base of pinion gear, and come with a deep set ported spool.

The reel you are holding is a 2003 stock CU200B, the spool and bearing come in the set (BNT1507) you mentioned.

There are some very specialized tools that have to be hand made to be able to remove that pin. Bend the pin or the spool shaft and you will have to replace the whole works.

I would recommend that you either have a qualified service tech, or Shimano® themselves take care of the problem.

Thanks for the advice. The spool is marked "Super Free" so that's what I was going on.  I got the pin out by using a modified spring loaded punch. Getting it back in may be the hardest part.  You're right if I were wise, I'd send it to a qualified tech such as yourself but poor men have poor ways.
