Shaky Head Mod

Featured Replies

I was taking some pics of trailer hooks for the trailer hook thread, and I thought I'd take some pics of a simple mod I do to my shaky heads.

The one on the left is unmodified, the one on the right I clipped off most of the spring with my needlenose pliers and angled it toward the point of the hook. I've had better luck getting the worm rigged in a more natural manner this way. Also look at the increased gap between the screw and the hook point. That can only help, I think.

Sorry it's so blurry, the batteries died in my good camera, so I just used my fishing camera...

Looks like a great idea. I like the idea of having the spring more in line with the hook point. Did you also try it without trimming down the spring? Might hold the bait better.

Cheers,

In my experience, twisting the plastics on the spring that far kind of tears up the nose a little. With the cut down spring, there is plenty left to hold the lure, without reaming a hole in it.

Looks like a great idea, I'll have to try that tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing.
