Cabelas prodigy opinions

Featured Replies

Can't seem to get the search to work so I thought I'd try a post.

Any opinions on this reel.  Which reel is it modeled after ??

Great reel for $65!!  just bought one for a christmas gift for a buddy this week.  Checked it out and lubed it up.  I think it's a helluva deal at $65.  It is made by Daiwa and appears to be a house-branded TD-A 150H which is a respectable reel in it's own right.

I'm going to go buy me a couple more, can't find a better reel then this for $65.  It's smooth.  Get you one!

BTW....the search feature hasn't worked for about a week now.

I may have to consider one of these as well. Have been looking for something to put on my new Avid.  The written reviews seem to recommend it.

I have a cabelas prodigy baitcaster and I like it very much. I am new to fishing and baitcasting. I also have a revo sc and the revo reels seem to be very highly thought of on these forums. I think the revo is smoother than the prodigy, but it is not a glaring difference in my opinion. I bought the revo sc when cabelas had them for 79.00. but from what i have seen, the prodigy for 65.00 bucks has lots and lots of value. I have only been fishing for about 9 months or so, so feel free to factor that into your decision. One other thing to consider, if you become unhappy with anything you purchase from cabelas, they will exchange or refund no questions asked.

It's not modeled after anything, it's marked right on the reel

Made by Diawa for Cabelas

That is reason enough to buy one right there. ;)

I just pulled the spool and left side cover off my HST153 Supertuned and transplanted it into the Prodigy. There are very few differences in these reels on the outside. My Supertuned has a different crank, but the handle pads are the exact same thing as the Prodigy. Prodigy is a gunmetal color and has some porting on the upper crossbar that my Supertuned does not have. Other than the fact the Supertuned has more bearings you would not be able to find any difference just looking at these 2 reels. The Prodigy is a TD-A150H with one extra bearing, period.
