Rod socks, sleeves or whatever you call them

I bought some of these from BPS. I wish I had gotten Cabela's version now instead. If any of you fellow BR members are looking for this item, go with Cabela's. Here is why....

They both claim adjustability but this aspect in the BPS model is a joke. The sleeve remains the same length, which is really only enough for a 5'6" or 6' rod. Too much of the blank ahead of the reel is left exposed on BPS model with rods over 6'. Their adjustbility feature is just a elastic strap to hook behind the reel. The Cabela's model has a velcro adjustment on the sleeve itself which allows you to cover the whole blank, then hook your elastic behind the reel.

Should have known better and paid closer attention. My opinion of the BPS sock is that it sucks. I'm going to give mine away to neighborhood kids and get the Cabela's version instead.

Cart7,

Do you have those StickJackets"?  How do they adjust for different length?

Anybody else know of any other brands?

I don't have the Stick Jacket brand.  I got mine from Fivebasslimit here.  It's the same poly web tubing.  You merely cut the thing to the length you need it.

There's also these

a little more expensive.

In order to help identify each rod I went to wally world and bought some metal rim tags and threaded one on each sleeve.  On the tags I wrote down what specific rod it was.  A box of 15 was like $2.50.  You could further accessorize by adding a large split ring at the tip end of the sleeve to hang the rod although you can hang the rod by the webbing without harming it.

Sorry u feel that way Jeff. I love my BPS rod socks.  They work quite well for me and are'nt very expensive.

I go to walmart's fabric department and buy 6 yards of camo military poncho material and some velcro. Then when I get home I cut them into strips and sew them up with my wife's sewing machine. I get about 20 of them for around 10 bucks and two hours of my time.

ReadyRig tournament series carrying cases. IMO, they are the best soft sided cases on the market. It's hard to find them in the stores, they are not on their website either.

This link came up when I did a search for them. These are the exact ones I have. I have one 2 rod case, and two 3 rod cases

+1.  I just got some from TW when they went on sale, and love them.  I went and gave awat all of my BPS ones.  I feel that they give a little more protection from bangs and bumps than the BPS ones.
