One year old Daiwa making odd noise

Featured Replies

Hello, I've got a year old daiwa regal 3500xi, spinning reel that just started to make noise while being reeled in, the noise is almost identical to sound that a reel makes when the drag is being run by a large fish, though more subtle/less noisy.  Aside from that everything appears fine, casting, drag etc... any thoughts? do I need to lube something in particular, I must admit I've never done reel maintenance on any I've owned  :-/ but this strikes me as odd, seeing I've got a 20 year old mitchell 300 that works as good as day 1.

PS- If it is simply in need of lube it would be great if someone could be as specific as possible for what to look for/lube

Kind Regards and happy new year

Those mitchell 300 sure are something right. Those things are built to last eons.

I had one of my reels start doing that a few months ago and when I took it apart I found that a few of the gear teeth had broken off.

If you are comfortable with it then take off the reels sideplate and look to see if there is anything wrong, other than that I would not start taking things out unless you really know what you are doing.

As for adding oil and grease Reelmech would probably be better at telling you what to do.

the old mitchell's certainly set the bar high, probably too high. If I do not get any other feedback I'll try popping out some of the screws and see if anything looks noticeably wrong.
