Abu Garcia Sets New .U. S. Casting Record

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa Using an Abu Garcia 5500C3CT Mag Elite, Tommy Farmer of Team North Carolina set a new United States casting record of 839.25 ft at the SportCast USA Southeast Regional in Wilmington, N.C., on April 4.  Farmer's record cast (equivalent to the length of 2.79 football fields) shattered the previously long-standing US record of 821 ft.

Farmer's record-breaking cast came with the Abu Garcia reel casting .28mm diameter monofilament line and 125g sinker

What did he catch on that cast ;).

Casting Records are like Slam Dunk Contests and Home Run Derbys:  OK now can you catch fish, get a few double, doubles and hit for power and average and still play great defense. It is showing that you have one side a many faceted sport together, what else can you do?

That's like a 4.4 oz sinker........................................... That would hurt. ;)

My dad was into that before his health went in the toilet. He had a custom one piece 11' Lamiglass rod made, and has a crazy Daiwa reel designed for distance casting. There is a football field next to my parents house and he could easily cast from one end, over the opposite goal post....

Holy smokes! I would NOT put my thumb on that!! It sounded like a high pitch saw or rc airplane. It was awesome though.  I never thought a reel's spool could spin that fast. 8-)

Where's the video of them reeling all of that line back in??? ;)

EDIT: well, right here...

I think I'd rather construct some sort of adapter that I could attach a power drill to to wind up that line. I would imagine that by now someone would have thought of using a drill. That was a long time BTW.
