Braided line or flourocarbon

Featured Replies

I recently put 30lb test braided line on a spinning reel and used it for my texas rig and spinner baits. I had been using mono and the difference is great. I liked the way it casts and how it sinks much faster than mono, no memory and no ugly coils after I cast my lure.

I was wondering what other lures would be best to use the braided or flouro line with and if dropshooting is an ideal technic, using maybe 10lb test for it?

I have Power Pro.

Do you think it floats more than mono?

what is the purpose of using a fluro leader?

do you atach it to a swivel or direct to the line?

I was gonna ask the same question...All the Powerpro I've fished has floated....

I drop-shot with 35# Gorilla Braid and a 12# Fluro leader.

Using a fluro leader with braid doesnt work that well and will randomly break.

I use 20# sufix with 6# seagur.  I've never had any problems with it randomly breaking.  Were is it breaking for you?  What knot are you using?

Furo sinks. Braid floats.

I must have been imagining things then. I could swear the braid was sinking faster than the 17lb mono I had. Maybe the lure just reacted different from what I am used to.

If I wanted to try flurocarbon for my dropshooting, is it easier to just put that line on my reel instead of using a leader? my thinking is that this way I don't have to worry about my knots not being perfect, the least amount of knots is better IMO.

does that make sence or am I crazy? ;D

Braid when T-rigged will sink faster than mono when T-rigged because it is thinner (depending on lb).  When you take away the lure and weight then yes braid floats.  Way to call someone out there guys.  :;)

I find it much easier to tie a uni-uni line to line knot than to respool with floro.   For simplicity sake I have opted to use floro leader for every technique.  This way I am only cutting and tying lures on Floro and once every few trips I tie a new leader.  Technically les knots are better, but I haven't had a problem with the knots yet.  Just make sure your drag is set correctly.

Got you.

so if I had the same diameter line they would probably float/sink about the same. Since the 30lb braid is probably smaller diameter than the 17lb mono I had before it went underwater faster. The same way, if I had changed to 10lb mono it would have sinked faster. That makes sence. ;)

the drag need to be looser than it would with mono, right?

Correct.  Thinner diameter lines cuts through the water with less resistance than thicker line.  It allows lures that sink to sink faster.  It also allows diving cranks to dive deeper.

As for drag looser or tighter the line material dosent mater.  In a leader situation set your drag to 1/3 of the lighter of the two lines to be safe.  Some people set it to 1/2. Use a weight or scale to determine.

If you are using #60 braid don't try to set your drag to #20.  You will break a rod or real.
