Feedback on cranking rod please

Featured Replies

Did some shopping at gander mtn. the other day and about the only rod I could find that was fiberglass was made by american rodsmith, a david fritts cranking series. It definitely has that "fiberglass rod feel" that I keep reading about in the magazines (forgiving, etc.) The only downfall I can think of with the rod was that it was pretty heavy. I am guessing that no matter what fiberglass rod I use that is gonna be the case. Am I right? Can anyone give their opinion on this rod? I am new to bass fishing and want to get the most bang for my buck. This rod was 7 ft, med heavy, 3/8 to 1 & 1/4 oz., 10-30# and was priced at $69. Any input would be appreciated or if there is a fiberglass rod out there that just blows this one away, let me know! thanks,

That rod would be used for deeper water  and larger cranks.

St. Croix has some nice fiberglass rods.

I don't know a ton about this but, I've owned some BPS cranking sticks and some st. croix premier glass rods.

The cranking sticks are technically fiberglass. I like them though because they fit my hand well. Some people say that they are heavy, I personally disagree. Lots of people here use and like them. Cheap too.

The st. croix was a really good rod as it would be comparable to the fritts model. I would think. But, the straight handle made my hand cramp.

I'm guessing that most of the rods you'll find for this will seem heavy with maybe the exception of the carrot sticks. The people here that have them say good things about them.

I had the older Fritts model and returned it for a St. Croix fiberglass Mod Med (I think the price is aroun $110). For heavy cranking I have Lamiglass Skeet Reese 705 R ($170). This rod is awesome for Big Body cranks. So the question is what type of cranks do you like to thow?

THe St Croix handles everything up to a 5/8 oz well. It does a fair job with the DD22, but you need to put some more effort into it. If you are new to cranking and not sure if you are going to do much cranking I would pick up a BPS MH cranking rod. These go one sale a lot for $30. You cant beat that rod for the price.
