Trilene XT Question

Featured Replies

Looking to getting 12 lb XT for catfish & carp fishing. I may also use it for steelhead fishing & thinking of using it for trolling. I will be using a baitfeeder spinning reel.

What I would like to know is does XT have much stretch, especially in the 10/12/14 lb? The reel I have will take 300 yds of 10 lb or 260 of 12 lb line. Not sure if 12 or 14 lb will come off the spool easily or will it all unwound when I cast?

I haven't tried mono line in 12 or 14 lb on a baitcast reel, but the baitfeeder reel I am using has a pretty big spool.

Thanks

All I really use is XT. Its a mono so its definitely got some stretch. But its a tough line. Not great in cold water though.

Thats a big spinning reel!  Should work ok with 12 on a big spool unless you are going to throw long casts with it.  Carp and Catfish, no problem.

As for stretch....no hard data but it sure doesn't stretch as much as XL does, or at least it seems not to, to me.  I have absolutely no gripes at all with XT concerning stretch.  I love the stuff, super tough line!  I think P-Line CXX is similar.

XT is very tough but just has too much memory for my tastes. I would try the triline maxx or Stren Original. Both are pretty tough but have less memory.

You may want to try Cajun Red Cast in #12 or #14 test. It's about the best mono around in my opinion. Low stretch and no memory to speak of and very strong and low abrasion from rocks and stumps. Mike

I've thought about trying it.

have caught 18# carp and 12# catfish on 10# xt.

unfortunately, was fishing for bass at the time.

xt is a tough line, it does have some stretch (tho not as much as big game) and it is not user friendly in cold water...it does seem to relax some in warmer water after a few casts.

would not be my first choice for casting on a spinner but, for trolling, may work well.
