Shimano Crucial crankbait rod

Featured Replies

I went to bass pro today to buy a new rod.  Specifically a 7' MH rod for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and traps to go with my burner reel.  Anyway they have crucial rods on sale for $139 except the crankbait series (tc4) which are $129.  I was looking at both and thought I had picked the non-crankbait series but after getting home I realized I didnt.  So should i take it back or will it be alright for the technique I am wanting to use it for?

I have the 7'0 Medium action CB series rod and the MH one.

I use the medium action rod for 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz CB's and Traps. It's primarily my trap rod. I use the MH model for larger crnaks like the DD14 and DD22.

I don't think either one is ideal for shallow Spinnerbait or buzzbait fishing. The MH model would probably work well for slow rolling spinnerbaits deeper.

So, to answer your question, if you have a limited budget for rods and can't really specialize, I would take it back, and get a good general purpose rod in the 6'6" MH range. it would be good for SB's, BB's. Traps are tough b/c the MH fast action rods will tend to load up too quickly, and you will lose some fish on those trebels.

Good luck-

Thanks Shadcranker,

I think I may end up keeping it and just put a different reel on it.  I will just use it for traps and cranks.

I read your post about your tourney at percy priest... that sucks your pattern died out.  I fished there sunday and did alright throwing a trap in muddy water past the hobson pike bridge.  Nothing really great one 15in lmb, 3 12-14in lmb, 1 striper, and a 5.5lb carp.  I've never seen a carp hit a lure, I thought I had a nice bass til I got it to the boat.  What a disappointment.
