Repairing a Balsa Wood Crankbait

Featured Replies

I did a dopey thing today, and fished a few balsa wood Bagleys in fast rocky water, and they paid the price.  Three have puncture holes, and one KB2 has cracks down the sides.  Is there any way to repair them?  I was going to just dab some superglue over the holes, but didn't know what that would do to the bait, so decided to ask ya'll instead.

Thanks.

Nobody?  Buhler?  Buhler?   :P

I use Devcon 2-ton epoxy - - available at Wal-Mart.  FWIW it's the same stuff used by many of the top handcarvers for the clear coat.   Get some little disposable brushes to apply it.

BTW.....Don't get the 5-min Devcon

Awesome, thanks!

You need to get devcon 2ton epoxy and get some of the plastic craft brushes.  Cut the brush in half and then you have a stir stick.  Now the bait needs to be completely dry so wait about 10 days before you apply the epoxy.   You will need to rotate the bait for about 20 min as the epoxy cures or you will get saggs in the clear coat.

You can pm me if you have any further questions.
