Has anybody used this knot? It's almost identical to the San Deigo jam knot.

I use it...its a really good knot, and it hasn't failed me yet.

But, I still opt for the palomar knot most of the time.

Besides palomars its the only knot i use hah.

Well, I tried it out last night. Just an informal test.

I used it with 8lb test, so I could break it easily, and compared it to the San Diego jam knot. I tied and broke each one three times.

The SDJ knot is better, hands down. At least for me.

I still use a Palomar for everything except cranks. I'll continue to use the SDJ knot for cranks.

the reverse clinch and SDJ are the same knot. i think your tying the clinch wrong or something. read this, first sentence http://www.marlinnut.com/knots/sandiego.shtml

Gannoli, look at step 3 of the link you sent. Then look at the video i posted a link to. They are not the same knot.

is this a good knot for braided line? i'm new to the braided line thing and this seems like a simple and effective knot.

They are very close. the only difference is passing the line through the bottom loop. That's the part I'm really clumsy at. I always seem to have my hands or fingers in the wrong place. The reverse clinch is easier for me to tie because it leaves out that step. But, the SDJ turned out to be stronger during my very informal testing.

Don't have a clue about braid MillerTime. You'll have to give it a shot, and let us all know what you think.

The SDJ is the only knot I used on braid hasnt failed me yet!!!

Palomar or an improved clinch with the line doubled through the eye have worked best for me with braid.  The only time I've ever had a knot failure with braid was on a regular improved clinch--if you pass the line twice through the eye (and then pass the line through both loops--it's a little tricky) the knot seems much stronger and less likely to slip.  Doesn't work too well on mono, though--the line memory makes it tough to cinch down.
