Buzzbait/Top Water Rod

Featured Replies

What is a good Buzzbait/Top Water Rod for under $50? I currently use a Berkley Lightening Rod but I need another rod because I need this rod for a new jig rod.

Hey guys, I found some deals at our local Academy, I got four Abu Garcia 7' Medium Heavy Rods for $6.99 a piece so I had to buy a few.

Would this be a good buzzbait rod?

I have found with top water lures including buzzbaits, that I want a rod with a soft tip, and a med. action.  I learned to set the hook fishing salmon and steelhead, which is cross their eyes every time.  When I am fishing reaction baits like topwater lures, I still have the knee jerk reaction of trying to hit the home run when setting the hook, so I use a softer rod, to make my hook sets easier and slower.

i also would recommend a rod with a softer action like fishbear said. i feel that it helps prevent me from pulling the lure out of the bass's mouth. the bps crankin' stick is on sale at bass pro for $40 so thats in your price range and its a composite with a slower action so you might want to check it out.

P.S. You may not like the way a fiberglass or composite rod handles, so preferably check it out before you buy it

I'll use a Berkley Cherrywood 7' Medium Action until I can afford a better one.

What is recommended for Finesse Fishing like Shakey Heads and stuff? I use a M/H 7' Rod now, what do you use?
