Penn Sargus Spinning Reel

Featured Replies

Anybody have any experience w/ a Penn Sargus spinning reel? I'm a Shimano bass man in KY, but once a year I take a vacation w/ family to the Florida panhandle and I was wondering if this corrosion resistant Penn spinning reel might make a nice addition to my bass arsenal but also allow me to fish for reds and snook once a year in Appalachicola.

I've never owned a Penn, but I've heard they are a solid reel.

Any opinions?

You just don't hear much about PENN on this forum. When I think of Penn products I think of salt water fishing.

My dad and i have a few Penn SSG reels we use for saltwater fishing. they are very reliable and durable. I haven't used the Sargus, but i would expect the same type of quality.

Thanks guys. I should probably find a marine fishing forum, huh.

I probably should've thought of that earlier. I knew Penn was known primarily as a saltwater brand.  :)

I used to own 3 Penn Power Graph spinning reels.  I upgraded to Pflueger Presidents but it wasn't because I didn't care for the Penns.

They were solid, dependable reels.  I wouldn't think twice about buying another one today.

I think a Penn would be good for what your planning on doing, I have a smaller size SSg on an Ugly Stick Lite (my 1st rod) and it gets the job done.
