Need help with what to use on our trip

Featured Replies

Me my dad and my buddy are going up to our cottage November 18 and I was wondering what sorta things the bass will be doing around this time and what I should use. I have never been bass fishing this late in the season so I am hoping for your guys help.

Our Cottage is 2 hours NE of Toronto so its gonna be cold. If were lucky we might get midday air temps of a max of 5 degrees Celsius.

HELP?!?!?!!?!?!??!??

Being that its gonna be that cold....PAY ATTENTION...in my expeirences in that cold of weather....bites are few and far between....but I think "Aint Texan" nailed it. Use a hair jig.

Also a deep south angler but one of my concerns would be your line selection. Low grade mono gets kinda stiff when it's really cold here in Georgia, I can't imagine how it will react in those temps. Maybe try florocarbon?? As for lure selection hair jig and trailer combo sounds good coming from what I read over the years. Catch one for us! :)

Whatever you do take along some 'Reel Magic'.  It works wonders in the winter and prevents ice from forming on your equipment.  I use it on line, reels, lures, rods, and rod guides.  You can find it at Wal-mart.  Here is a pic if you are interested.

As for what lures to use.   Feathered or haired jig would be best.  Depending on what the water clarity is.  Don't use a pork trailer in these temps, because it will freeze too easily.  Stick to a soft pliable trailer like a Paca Chunk, or similar plastic trailer.

Anyone think a jigging spoon would be worth a shot?  I avoid fishing in the winter other than a handful of times, but have seen them having some luck in the cold with jigging spoons...
