New swimbait rod, need your opinion

Featured Replies

I bought a new OKUMA guide select casting rod model GS-C-7111XH. I'm new to the swimbait scene but the deal was quite good so I couldn't resist.

Specs:

Action: XH

Length: 7'11"

Line Wt: 15-40

Lure Wt: 2-10 oz.

Foregrip: 3-1/2"

Reargrip: 3-3/4"

Guides: 10+Tip Fuji New Concept w/Alconite

My questions are: Is this rod so heavy it's impractical? Would it be a good fit for musky? It's designed for the biggest swimbaits and normally I would have gotten the one designed for 1-6 oz. lures but like I said I couldn't resist the deal.  ::(

I'm just wondering if anyone has used a rod like this and what their opinions are.

I have and use the same exact rod paired with a shimano cardiff 400 reel. I use it for all my swimbaits, even though its a over kill for my smaller ones. It works great with Hudds, and lunker punkers.
