Which Speed Ratio for Different Presentations?

Recommended Posts

I was curious as to what everyone was using for different presentations as far as flipping, crankbaiting, spinnerbating etc. as far as speed ratio's go.

I am using a 5.4:1 for crankbaits, a 7.1:1 for topwater and I have found that it is also helpful for t-rigging and jig fishing so I can pick up slack a lot quicker.  6.4:1 or 6.3:1 for everything else.

There was two pretty long threads recently about this exact question. Search for it, there was some pretty good advice.

I pretty much use a "burner" 7x:1 for everything (BC wise).  Its easy enough to slow down but harder to speed up on a slower reel.  Also, soon as I am through the "strike zone" can get it back quicker with the faster reel to cast again.

Remember when a 4.7 : 1 and 5 : 1 was a Fast Retreive on a baitcaster??

If I remember right my Lew's Speed Spin had a 5:1, a Shimano BX-1 that had a 3.6:1.   All the Abu's Casters had 4.7:1's as Fast. :D

I love my 6:1 spinnning reels and 7:1 Baitcasters.  ;)
