I thinking about getting a 7"6 heavy action lightning rod and 20lb fluro for fishing mattlures soft bluegills and 5.5-6.5 hollowbellied swimbaits and was wondering how well this would work and if I could also use it for jigs?

    It would work fine.  You may want to go to a medium heavy though for added distance on casts and palying fish at close range with that heavy line which won't stretch a lot.
