What Does This Mean????????????

Featured Replies

I saw on TW that all Powell Max Casting rods have extra fast tapers.  First off, what does this mean?  Second, where is the taper located?

Does it mean that the rods tip bends a lot?  I have no idea and I was just wondering.

It is describing the flex/strength of the rods tip. An extra fast tip is a VERY stiff tip. So, the faster the rating the stiffer the tip. Although some rod companies do overrate there rod ratings. I just bought the Powell 766 mag heavy/extra fast from TW and let me tell you it is AWESOME!!!!!! But the tip is not stiff enough to be rated extra fast IMO!

Sometimes people use taper and action interchangably. They probably meant extra fast action.

This means that the rod's flex point is going to probably be in the upper 1/5 of the rod from the tip.

Probably makes for great soft plastics fishing.
