Question on high visibility line....

Featured Replies

I've been looking at spooling my baitcaster reels with Power Pro High Vis yellow or red color. My eyesight isn't what it use to be. Should I tie on say a 18' flourocarbon leader or is it ok to just tie the lure right on to the Power Pro..

It depends on the clarity of the water your fishing. If its clear (more than 4 ft. of visibility) I would recommend a 3-4 ft. flouro leader. If its stained (1-4 ft. of visibility) I would use a 18'' - 24'' flouro leader. If its muddy I wouldnt worry about it.

I hope you get a better response then I got, I asked about the same question and got zip for answers.

maybe they all have 20 - 20 vision????? I'd like to know a little about the red line myself but all I can fined is advertisement and with them it's the best thing since sliced bread. :-/

A friend of mine has used yellow power pro and always used ether flo. or mono leader, about 2 ft. Thats all I kow about it haven't used it myself.

I finally decided to try some braid on my LP baitcaster.  I picked up a spool of Berkley Tracer 40lb line.  This line has 2.5 ft of high viz yellow and 2.5 ft of black alternating throughout the 110 yd spool.  After using it for 2 1/2 weeks I really look forward to fishing with it.  I've been throwing nothing but plastics and I do like the high viz yellow for keeping track of the whereabouts of my line.   When I tie on my hooks I make sure to tie to the black section.  I have noticed a bit of fading of the black but I figure I can take a sharpie and dress it up.  I recommend this line for anybody who would like to try a visible braid.

Just a tbought, but does anyone know if this high viz braid would fade as the other colored braided lines do? I think that would defeat the purpose of wanting a hi viz line if we know it will eventually fade out as typical braids to.

i use 30lb. yellow power pro and 65lb. neon fire sufix. when i fish clear water, i always tie on a 15lb. fluoro leader of about 6-10 feet. in less-than clear water, i tie direct for reaction baits and use a short fluoro leader (4-6 feet, 15lb. test) for everything else. a lot of the local guys take a sharpie to their line and color the first 4-5 feet of line black...seems to work for them.
