First casting rod

Featured Replies

Just got my first casting rod today.

Will be a good addition to my 2 spinning reel set ups

Berkley® AMP Series Casting Rod

its the 6' MH model

Now to find a reel that will fit it well :o

Throw an Abu 5500C3 on that bad boy with some Trilene XL 14lb mono and watch both the rod and reel last you twenty years!

avoid mono for a baitcaster, keep that on your spinning setup,id go with 15lb fluorocarbon(100% trilene) or a 30lb braid(power pro),that way you got your spinning set up for certain styles and you can use your baitcaster for putting your baits in slop/pads where the big boys hide,or for throwing swimbaits/heavy baits, but with a mh rod id avoid mono imo.as for a reel id check out abu garcia revo s or sx,shimano citica 200e,pflueger asaro/summit or team daiwa tierra baitcasters, all great reels

I ended up going with the abu garcia revo s for this rod, heading out to try it tonight.

You'll love that reel. It is also a fairly easy reel to learn on. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Well not to much tonight, learned the real without to many issues, though I would not recommend anyone trying to learn at night as it was difficult to see, I'll be going back during the day to try it practice more.  Was a slow night, lost 1 fish, landed an 18.25" walleye and 2 white bass.

(Walleye seemed to be no fight at all, guessing its because I have a 12# line on and the rod is MH while Im used to a 8# and 10# line on my M rods)
