Berkley Lightning Rod?????

Featured Replies

The amplified tip is said to slow the action and make them good cranking rods but IMO they are both fast action (with the spinning I would say is more moderate to fast).

Thanks for that information.I'm looking for a cheap spinning rod suitable for cranks....now comes the hard part in convincing the wife why i need one more rod. ;D

Lightening rods are for budget anglers who really can't afford to spend big bucks right now. They do get the job done, they lack in some departments of quality and sensitivity. For their price range it's to be expected.

I'm using the Berkley Amp as a crankbait rod and have it paired with a Quantum Kinetic PTI-B20 spinning reel and its my go to setup with the combo being very light (at least to me). It has plenty of backbone as well and caught my PB 3lb LM on it.

Anytime... ;), I love fishing with them...

30-40 dollar rod on sale from cabelas/bass pro shops/scheels will go farther in quality, as opposed to things you would find in well known wholesale establishments.

The Berkley Lighting Shock Rod/Amp aren't sold at either Wal-Mart or K-Mart (at least not up here) Only Dicks and Herb Philipson's.

I have two of the 7ft mh on my revos. I've never seen a kistler, and the whole hunter orange thing is lost on me. My rods work fine with mono, and floro, but never use braid on a lightning rod. They work just fine for red I shads and traps over grass. At forty bucks they work just fine, plus you don't look like a tool on the water.

true the carrot stick might be a little gaudy but with the amount they have sold and as popular as they are i dont think hardcore anglers are concerned about what their appearance is using a rod,im going to assume youve never handled a carrot stick, cause if you did the color wouldnt matter to you,nor "looking like a tool" cause for the price those sticks are AMAZINGLY light and VERY sensitive all backed up behind a lifetime warranty, you have nice reels (the revos) why would you spend that and then go and put them on lowend rods? to me that would make someone look more like a tool then a revo on a highend "orange" rod imo.

I think RoadWarrior gave the best advice by saying to keep your eyes on our flea market here. Also, check Ebay everyday because there is stuff popping up daily! I have owned the lightning rods and i hated them personally. It is better to hold out and buy a good rod than buy a cheap one that you will replace later anyways imo! I have seen the St. Croix Mojos on Ebay for $65 shipped.

GM has St Croix's on sale right now...but he's talking about the Lighting shock rods, not the original Berkley lightning rods

BPS Bionic Blades are constantly on sale for around $50 and are much better.

x2...id also go look @ cabelas they have the xml series on a HUGE crazy sale now orig. a $140 rod now marked down to $40 those are great rods and at that price...talk about a steal.also has the split grips

I have several makes of rods but have always been partial to Fenwick's rods. I still own and use one I bought over 30 years ago for UL spinning. Anyway, if it's a casting rod your after you may want to look at the Fenwick GT. I have two of these and I like them.

I got mine at Cabela's.
