Best knot for Fluoro?

Recommended Posts

Ive been trying out a spool of P-Line 12lb fluoro recently (mainly because i'm too broke to buy my fav braid)...

The first 75 yards or so, i had no issues with this line at all. But after that, i've been getting really bad memory, and my noose-knots have just been slipping off the eye while making the knot taut. I would just go with the always reliable polamer knot, but i find it a pain in the @$$ to do with anything besides braid.

So whats the absolute best knot for this line??? ;)

i suggest the Palamor.

Use silicone spray or KVD line & lure conditioner on line to help remove memory,

Sometimes at end of line on spool you will encounter problems.  ;)

the noose knot has always failed for me. until I was showed the palmer by a friend I couldnt be happier. I use it for all of my knots now and have great luck with it. Its vry simple and never snaps or comes un-done

The key to any knot is proper lubrication.  When tying a palomar with flourocarbon, you must take special care to coat the knot with spit and slowly cinch using the tag end.

Try tying a knot without spit and using the mainline to cinch.  The line above the knot will look wavy like curly hair.  That is due to the friction generated from cinching the knot.

Now do the same thing, but get the knot good and wet and cinch by pulling the tag end.  The line shouldn't be curly.

Patience and lubrication is what it takes.  I've never used anything but a palomar with flourocarbon and I've never had a knot break.  I may have to cut & retie on occasion if I've gotten in a hurry, but that's about it.

I like the palomar for larger FC lines - 15 and up.  I have better luck with the Trilene Knot for 8, 10, and 12 FC.  It seems to have superior strength for me.

In my experience and what ive heard from others the Eugene Bend knot is the best with flouro. I wouldn't suggest using it for anything else.

The Palomar knot and just remember to wet the knot down before pulling it tight to help prevent damaging the line.

Later, ;)

I've heard/read this as well, however I haven't used it enough to be able speak to it compared to the Palomar.

There was segment on North American Fisherman TV show where they compared knots to each other, if I am not mistaken the Palomar was rated best last year and was beat by the Fish-N-Fool knot. I personally use the Palomar and Trilene Knot when tying to terminal tackle and have only tried the fish-n-fool knot a couple of time with good success.

Here is a link where the Miller Knot vs. the Fish-n-Fool:

I've used an improved clinch since the beginning of time and as long as you use 6-7 loops, wet the line and slowly pull the knot up to avoid excess heat in the line, you've got yourself a good knot.

There are probably better knots for Fluoro, but for me it works every time.
