HEY GUYS, FIRST TIME POSTING I FISH A FROGG A LOT BUT SOMETIMES THE HOOK DOES RIDE ON THE BOTTOM ON RETRIEVE HOW DO I PREVENT THAT.  

First of all,

A couple things I can think of:

You could use a bigger (meaning heavier) hook that should keep it right side up (Gammy superline hooks?)

You could attach a little bell to the bottom of the hook, which some people do. It will add enough weight to keep it right side up.

Also, make sure you're rigging it right down the middle of the frog so that it runs straight.

I'm sure more people can offer suggestions too...

Hmm what frog are you using? With Yum Buzzfrogs and Zoom Horny Toads it happened to me fairly often. Although I now use Stanley Ribbits rigged with a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook, and 95% of the time the hook will ride right side up for me. Yes occasionally the hook rides on the bottom, but like I said about 95% of the time it runs true. Also I don't really think it makes a difference or atleast with the ribbit. It looks pretty much the same on each side, so when the hook is riding on the bottom, I don't know if it really makes a difference on whether the fish is going to strike or not, I don't know if it effects the hook up ratio though.

I hear everyone talk so great about the Zoom Horny Toad but I can't get that frog to work well for the life of me. Im rigging it with a 4/0 - 5/0 EWG Gamakatsu but it will ride with the hook down about 50% of the time. And the feet just don't seem to give off any action for me, I have to reel them pretty darn quickly to get them to start kicking right. I don't know maybe I got a bad bag of them or something, though there not bent or anything like that, they look normal. This frog just never works correctly for me so I rarely fish Horny Toads if ever.

weighted hooks have helped me solve that issue

buying other brands/models of frogs has helped  LoL

when pouring a frog with a -1- pc. mold.

while the plastic is still hot, lay in pc. of old baits

so they will stay in place in the bait when the plastic sets..

the top side of a 1 pc. frog mold is also the bottom of the frog.

If you are talking about a swimming frog, try the G-Mag Oversize Hook.

The new rage Tail  frog (toad) rights itself every time when you start the retrieve. interesting that it does that and looking closer to design difference I think it is cupped and keeled at nose to make it happen. Great design.

Could you explain that? I too have been looking for a practical cure for this problem.

What he means by that is if you have a hollow rubber frog, put old plastic in to weight it dow so it lands right side up.

  :-[i'M SO CONFUSED :-[i bought a pack of Ribbits near the end of last Summer (first time for toads) and used them only a couple of times with Gammi 4/0 Hooks. I rigged it weightless with the hook point comeing out the ?top? (eyes and everything) so it would ride in the groove. The rounded part of the hook is on the bottom (smooth side). Are we talking the same thing or do I maybe need to take up bowling :-[???

I attached a picture of a Horny Toad and a Ribbit.  The Horny Toad is rigged with a Zoom Horny Toad Hook.  Twist the corkscrew into the nose of the bait.  Line up where the hook needs to penetrate to go all the way through to the other side (eyeball side) and push the hook through the bait.  Then skin hook the point (on the eyeball side).  

The Ribbit on top is rigged with an Owner 5/0 twistlok hook which is almost identical to the Zoom hook.  I rig it exactly the same way.  The only thing of note is that the groove for the hook is on the eyeball side on the Ribbit and on the belly side of the Horny Toad.

Using these hooks most of the time these baits come back with the hook riding on top.  You need to keep your rod tip high to keep the line out of the water.  The Horny Toad has to be retrieved fast to make the legs kick and the Ribbit can be retrieved at a slower pace.  Some days they want one and other days they want the other.  

I caught a lot of fish on these two lures over and around hyrdilla.  I used the SPRO frog some but have had more sucess on other two.
