Shimano stradic Ci4

Recommended Posts

I was looking for one of these in the 2500 size and all my local stores are out and backordered till Feb or March.  Really?!  This reel that hot or is it because Shimano is not shipping??

Anyone tried it have any comments on how the reel feels and performs?

I purchased the reel at the end of the season, and did get a couple of trips out of it. So far, I have not experienced any problems with it. In fact I love it and will purchase another one. I tried it with two different cumara rods. I was using it with heavy Texas rigs, light texas rigs, wacky worm and split shotting live bait. Worked well with all. The only negative is that it only comes with one spool.

yeah, what's the deal with NO spare spools for a $200 spinning reel?  I read in the BPS catalog that there was a FREE Spare spool, but was that a miss-print??  All my local guys tell me no spare spool! >:D

No spare spool to keep the cost down. Yes that was a mis-print. They will gladly sell you an extra spool.

I love this reel.  I bought one and then two weeks later I got another one. I'm very impressed with it.  It is very light and smooth. I have mine paired up with G Loomis rods but I think the Cumara spinning rods would be an awesome match as well.  I have a Daiwa Sol spinning reel as well and think the Stradic Ci4 is IMO a better reel.

I got mine in Nov. and it was the only one the local shop could get from his distributor, so maybe its more the middle mans fault not Shimano.  As far a performance goes I caught a Snook that went 12# on the boga yesterday.  The drag was smooth and powerful.  The reel seems solid and strong.  After the disappointment the new curado was to me, Ive been buying Daiwa.  But this reel has started to build back my confidence in Shimano.  A spare spool would be nice, but I've never actually needed a spare in the field for the 50 years Ive fished so Im not worried about it now.

I'm just wondering which model of curado were you disapointed in? The E series? Care to explain why? I've moved on to all daiwa LP baitcasters recently but I've always wondered about the Curado E.

The E series.   It just didnt feel solid to me.  The D series was all I ever wanted in a casting reel, it even looked classy.  The goofy color of the E was too much bling to me and its bright silver handle, star and cast control cap looked more like plastic than metal.  The worm gear cover was black plastic instead of metal like the D.  The gear was slimmed down to half the thickness of the D's.  Fine for a bass only reel maybe, but not if you target multiple species.

I've been reading up on the ci4 and looking into maybe getting one in Feb. to replace my shimano stradic 2500fi, which really stills works fine, and putting the ci4 on a Gloomis sjr783 for mostly worm fishing. I've been using 10lb. P-line cx-premiumn, and may try to go down to 8lb. when I get the ci-4.

Do you think I should drop down in line size? :-/

i have dropped down to 6# cxx and find it is more managable than 8# , and the line has plenty of strength ....

I found 10# Seaguar Red Label close to unmanagable.  Co Poly in 10# would probably be better.  I think the reel shine with 6 or 8#.  Better yet 10# braid which Im finally getting used to.

I have 6# Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon on it now.  It works great.  Handles well and is a tough son of a gun to break ... when I can tie on a good knot :D

I finally got enough BPS gift cards saved up and went to pick up the ci4 and they are out of stock and 81 on backorder. Oh well, the temp. outside is like 11 so I got awhile. I may try P-line cx premiumn  8lb.  I think the reel would be better suited for either 6 or 8 instead of the 10lb I've been using.
