Topwater Rods??

Everytime I see a "Topwater" Rod its Fast or Xtra fast action.  I am serious thinking a moderate rod might be better for the keeping the fish on rather than pulling free.  I find myself loosing the drag and fighting the fish with that rather than the rod. Trying to lip a  7 lb smallie with a mouth of trebles when it pulls loose is not fun.

Anybody else gone to a Moderate action rod?
