i use screw in bullet weights cause i hate when the weight goes thru the mat but the bait gets hung up in grass , so instead of messing with pegging them , i use screw in type weights . here are some that i recommend -Kanji Senkin X-Metal Bullet Weights , Gambler Tungsten Screw In Florida Rig Weights , and Bullet Weights Perma Color Screw-In Weights

Some company has a new weight system for punching heavy cover and it costs a ridiculous amount of money for a modified weight. I take a ewg hook and put a bass casting weight around 1 oz on the bottom of the hook, then I secure it with a jig collar then throw a crazy legs craw texposed on the hook. Hardly ever snags, and if it does you can give slack with the weight at the bottom frees itself most of the time.

I like 1 1/4- 1 1/2 oz tungsten weights for punching. I peg em and use some kind of beaver or craw bait.

Tungsten 1-1 1/2oz.

I don't always peg them either. I prefer the weight to go to the bottom and them force the lure down through the cover. you would be surprised the bites as the lure breaks through and hangs there before it follows the weight to the bottom. Works both ways, just at times a reaction bite requires the weight to be pegged. I let the fish tell me which one they like on a given day. Try it some time.

I love heavy cover, and grass fishing. If you try it my way the weight hits the water first letting the plastic of your choice free to flop, and flail all over the place while clearing weeds and any other debris. The old way of just putting on more weight is more work. Do what works, but never say I tried to tell ya how to do it the wrong way.
