Daiwa Viento vs Citica, need some help

Featured Replies

I've been in the hunt for a new reel, and had decided on a new Citica.  Most of my other reels are Shimano so it wasn't a tough decision since the Citica had been getting great reviews.  When I went to TW to place the order, I saw the Daiwa Vientos on sale for $120.  I've never really looked into Daiwa's reels, but am intrigued by the Viento.  I'm looking for some help because now I don't know what to do.  Should I stick with the Citica, or would the Viento be a better buy at that same price?  Thanks in advance

Stick with the Citica, you will be much happier.  The twitchin bar on the Viento is annoying.

Later, :D

The citica is also more versatile as you can use it for everything whereas the viento holds less line and I hated that reel, twitchin bar included.

Citica, the twitching bar is a joke. Created more problems. The bar would lock down. Or move up and down as I reeled. The citicas are great reels.

I have no experience with the Viento, but I love my Citica. No complaints from me about it at least for its price.

Keep the faith man, gotta stick with Shimano.  The new Citica is great.  Daiwas are good reels as well, but I've heard numerous bad things about the Viento.  If you're going Daiwa, I probably wouldn't go any lower than the Advantage HSTA.

Hard to beat a Citica in it's price range. Great Value

I have not casted a viento but I removed the spool out of one to see the spool and that thing is freaking heavy. I dont think it can cast lighter lures as good as a citica.

Most of my freshwater baitcasters are daiwas but I wouldnt recommend the viento to anyone.

I've owned both reels you mentioned. Viento in the past and Citica presently. No problems with the twitch bar on the Viento. Hated the whiney (sp?) noise during casts. Good caster on moderate weight lures, but struggled with lighter lures. Reel is on the heavy side and bar makes the reel bulky. Citica is easier to palm, casts good, and has a line of history. Viento was one and done. Still unable to justify why the Viento was a $200 reel at one point?? At the $120 price-point, the Viento is a decent buy at best.
